He served in WWII in the battle of Okinawa. He was 32- years-old when he died at the time leaving behind a wife and two very young daughters. Milton's brother Louis is my grandfather and he had two other brothers Alvin and Morris. Louis son Melvin Haber is my father and not Milton Brother. Very few Blacks and Mexicans (except for the Braceros) and no University of California Santa Cruz Students. (The College was built in the 1960s.) Before the student influx Santa Cruz was a very Conservative town. I really don't know how many Jews lived in Santa Cruz. Going thru the Santa Cruz School system in the 1940s and 1950s I don't remember Identifying any fellow student as being a Jew. This doesn't mean there weren't any, we just did not think that they were any different than ourselves. They were just fellow students. No discrimination as far as I was aware of.

I'm really glad that you are writing a book on Jewish History in Santa Cruz. Too much of Santa Cruz history is being lost .
"La Nostra Costa (Our Coast") A Family's Journey to and From the North Coast of Santa Cruz,Ca (1923-1983)can be ordered directly from the publisher: www.authorhouse.com Ivano Franco Comellihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17088771740643993831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31758730.post-43043335776567127332013-02-25T16:56:06.228-08:002013-02-25T16:56:06.228-08:00I recently received this message:

I was doing a google search for Morris Abrams and came across the discussion about the Haber funeral. I have the obituary from the Sentinel and have visited his grave.

What was Santa Cruz like ethnically in the 1950s? Were there any Jewish students at SCHS that you remember?

I am also interested in contacting the woman who was in your discussion thread whose family's property adjoined Home of Peace cemetery. I wanted toa sk her if she remembers the condition of the cemetery in the 1950s. Do you have her e-mail? I beleive her name is Barbara.

I also noticed you wrote a book.
