Thanks for the notice. Sandy and I will be in the norhteern environs doing the inland passage to Alaska on a cruise ship during that timeframe. So, we will not be in Santa Cruz helping to celebrate the Coast aka La Costa.

Ivano says: Thanks Diane. Your family was an integral part of the "La Nostra Costa" story. The flyer to the BBQ should be approved in the next couple of weeks. I'll make sure you get one.
Sempre Avanti.
The historical roots of this event
are embedded in the soil of Laguna, located off the Coast Road some five plus miles north of Santa Cruz. It was here that the Italians who lived in Davenport or on the Coast had their annual BBQ.
I have recorded some of my memories in my book 'La Nostra Costa". On page 234 I write:
"These festive events were usually well attended, as attested by an article appearing in the Santa Cruz Sentinel, dated September 6, 1949. Beneath the caption, "ITALO-AMERICAN BARBECUE SLATED UP COAST SUNDAY." It went on to quote publicity chairman John Battistini (according to the article , Mario Lazzerini was general chairman) as saying that the event, first held in 1934, usually attracted more than 1,000 people from Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Sacramento, and Monterey Bay cities. I guess it was just to be understood that people living in Davenport or along the Coast Road would be there, since the article made no mention of their expected attendance."
Ivano,
We have also been able to see this GREAT group of young Italians, but we certainly hope someway or another you're going to be able to great the REAL group to perform for the reunion, time will certainly tell, won't it. Good Luck.
Roberto e Deanna
Hi, Ivano...
I saw Il Volo perform on TV last week....they were wonderful! What a treat if you could get them to perform for the Reunion.....or were you kidding? Patty
Ei Ivano,
Great news about the marvelous singers. Note that they are not “Il Volvo”, but “Il Volo”. Not the Swedish car but Il Volo, The Flight.
Sempre avanti. Gino
Patty: You are correct. The "Breaking News" article was done 'tongue in Cheek".
Gino: You are also correct. The name of the group is 'Volo" not Volvo. The 'Old Rancere' got his groups mixed up (He did think the "Volvos" were older looking). He is still trying to come up with the correct promotional video for the 'Volvos'. (TNC-TNC) ivn0
Nice job Ivano!

Hey IvanO ,
Just picked up the mail, and I got THE Photo(the one you posted on the "blagga"), I can't thank
you enough. I have it hanging right next to me , so that I can see these two mother's of mine all the time. Okay the car in the background belonged to Mario Taurian . (The other car, of course,is your family car, "The Old Carretone".)
My mother Evelina and your mother Valentina are in the front (tug-a-waring.)Lina Brovia is seated next to your mom and Gigia Taurian, Maria Brovia and Elena Moro are standing. Freddie Moro is the boy in the background. Sempre Avanti
Reno Cantarutti
Right you are Reno: Maria Brovia (on the inside) and Elena Moro (on the outside) are standing on the right side of the photo behind your mother Evelina (seated right front). Standing behind Valentina,my mother (seated on the left) is Giga Taurian in the black outfit. I believe that the gal standing beside her was name Mary and may have been related to the Moros. The women directly behind your mom is Catarina Duggi.
Mario Taurian's car was a Chevrolet , the "Old Carrettone" was a 1934 Lafayette.
This photo probably was taken in Bonny Doon on the Iacopetti Property, circa 1937-38.
Sempre Avanti ivn0
