GUGLIELMO'S CORK EQUITY DAY NUMERO XXII -SAT. NOV 1

11/2/08
Well, fellow Blaggatori, the event start slowly. Lorenzo Spivacchi (Larry Spivak) Wine Tasting Manager said that he never had seen it so slow. Then about Noon the people came. Then the rains came. So the people stayed to wait until the rains slacken. More people came and then more rain. Before we knew it we had quite a crowd who didn't want to leave. So we cranked up the music and had a real party. A most succesful event. Thanks for showing everybody. Ivano

Ciao Ivano,

Great photo on your blog today. How did you get those two animal actors to pose like that?

Congratulations on your correct spelling of "Epi Alluini". That's perfect Itanglish. Not so for your spelling of "La Slida". An Italian would pronounce that, "SLEEda". Correct Itanglish is "La Slaida".

Owbow an Alluini story about Baffi? I don't remember if I told you this one:

In October, 1939 we had recently moved into the house on Bay Street. That Halloween night we heard a loud drumming on the windows of our dinette. That scared me to death! (I was 5 years old) Someone had waxed many of the 20 glass panes of that window.

The next year, while in the first grade, I learned about Halloween and told my parents about it. Apparently, that did not pacify my father about the window incident. He cut a stout stick from a tree, and made it into a sort of quarter-staff, a la Robin Hood. He kept it ready behind one of the porch pillars.

That Halloween, lurking in the blackness between the two houses, he waited. When a large figure appeared, and raised a hand toward the window, Baffi grabbed the staff and gave a terrific whack! The fellow ran up the street, yelping: "OH. My BACK! My BACK!" Oddly, that event was never repeated again.

Saluti, Gino (I still don't like Halloween)

ivano: Referring to your article: Can't this woman get anything right. It's King Abdulla II of Jordan, not King Hussein II. I guess she just can't get OB out of her mind. SS

Saratoga Sam: Nice to hear from you. You must be referring to the Santa Cruz Museum Presentation artcle. You are correct it is King Adulla II of Jordon, not King Hussein II. You must remember that the article was written in "tongue n'cheek" fashion. Even so, when dealing in "foreign affairs" names get jumbled.

Comment on business card posted:

Those of you who have read "La Nostra Costa", already know that the photo in the background is of the "Old Carrettone" our family car from 1937 to 1949 (the photo appears in the book). What you might not know is that the photo was taken by John Battistini, who owned John Battistini Insurance in Santa Cruz. The damage on the side of the car was caused by a collision with another vehicle on the Coast Road,c. 1948 (LNC. P.294). If you look closely you can see Bronco, my father, behind the wheel. BTW: The car was a 1934 Lafayette, manufactured by the Lafayette Motor Co. The company was later taken over by Nash Motor Company. ivno
