Although, my book is not about my police career per se`. I do write about several incidents that I experienced as a San Jose Police Officer. Regarding the slaining of San Jose Police Officer Richard Huerta in 1970, I write on page
332: "Probably the most frequently untold story about a policeman's death, is the impact it has, not ony on the slain officers's immediate family, but also on the families of other police officers."

My prayers go out to the families of the Fallen Officers and those of the Oakalnd Police Department.
Addio Mi Belli Figli.
Until we meet again across "Il Ultimo Ponte".

Our prayers will be with all the families and co-officers of the fallen heros. This is such a senseless waste of life. I have great admiration for all those men and women who's calling as police officers take them beyond the call of duty many times.
A prayer will be with all of you. And Ivano you as well since as a Captain I am certain you had your share of incidences that required you to go beyond your call of duty.

Ciao e Mandi

Thanks for your appropriate comment,Doriano. Unfortuantely you are correct, I experieced a lot of things in my thirty year career with the San Jose Police Department that I wished I hadn't. That is why (although encouraged by some) I have not written a book about my police career. Unlike events that I write about in "La Nostra Costa", I find it very difficult to re-live some past episodes which occurred during my life as a police officer. The unfortuante deaths of these three (now four)police officers is a case in point. Although they will never be forgotten by those who were close to them, the pain of re-visiting this cruel event many years later will also remain with them. I remember Officer Richard Huerta's parents crying at the mere mention of his name many years after he was killed.

Unfortunately, the deaths of these fine officers will not be the last. Violence and death are inherent in the world of the Police. God Bless those who have the courage to still go forward despite this knowledge.

What is absolutely amazing to me is that there was a march to celebrate the life of that low-life who killed these fine young men. What an outrage! JM

East Oakland, what a memory. My father was beaten to death in the 1980's in East Oakland for the proceeds of his Social Security check; it took several days for him to die and the perp pleaded to manslaughter, did his time brief time and was released. The officers who continue to work in that jungle have my deepest respect. Combat in Vietnam was much easier than what they do on a daily basis. Ken

My wife and I have been in Florida visiting for a few week. We saw the incident on the news and were saddened by what happened. We will respond to your request. Thanks again. My wife saw the service on TV as well. A beautiful tribute. I think my daughter-in-law's sister (SJPD) had probably attended. Sorry I missed you at the last Guglielmo Corkage. My wife, Penny, said she saw you there. Maybe next time. Take care. Roger.
