Ciao Ivano,

You may already have this story. In any case, here it is:

The photo of "Baffi" was taken before his return to Italy to find a bride. In 1933 he went back and met with Giuseppe Berti, who had 2 unmarried daughters. Seeing Ada busy at work in the house, Baffi said, "I'll take that one." Ada had overheard the conversation, and declared, "I'm not going to America with a scruffy looking farmer like you! And with that awful mustache!"

With Guglielmo's courting, she relented a bit, but knowing that he frequently went to the barber shop of her brother Nello Berti, she formed a plot with him. As Guglielmo often fell asleep in the barber chair, she asked Nello to do something about that horrid moustache. The very next occasion, he did indeed fall asleep, and Nello snipped off half of the moustache. This wakened Guglielmo, and seeing himself in the mirror, he roared, "What have you done? Get rid of the rest of it!" Having satisfied Ada's requirements, she then accepted his proposal of marriage. Baffi never wore baffi again, but the nickname remained forever.
Salute a tutti:
Gino "d'Baffi" Campioni

Great story Gino. The foto of the famoso "Baffi" will be on diplay at the ReUNion along with photo of your Mom, ADA. Was hoping that you would surprise us and come. Sempre Avant ivno

Oh what a wonderful story, Gino.
One of my bellos also had a mustache. At first I didn't like it, but later I got use to it. One day he shows up without the mustache. I couldn't get use to his face after that. It ruined our relationship. I guess he didn't tickle my fancy anymore. (Ha! Ha! That waa a joke, Gino.)
Anyway, thanks again. By the way; did you ever have a mustache?
I bet you were one handsome fellow in your day. Take care.

Ciao Carolina,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, I did have a moustache once, but nothing like my father's. His once was so long he could hang it over his ears. Mine just looked like a wooly worm.

Saluti, Gino

Ivano: Great photos and Gino great story about 'Baffi' . As for Carrie's version about breaking up with her 'bello', I heard it was the other way around. It was he who broke up with her because she wouldn't shave off her mustache.

Talked to LaNorma yesterday. Things are heating up for the big ReUnion on Sun 8/30. LaNorma is working on the photo committee. Many photos will be displayed. Some of these photo have never been displayed before. Also, Received call from Reno Cantarutti. He and his wife Franca along with his sister Norma Cantarutti Reiter and her husband Randy, plan to be there. Also Nannette Morgan will be there to meet the many people she read about in "La Nostra Costa". And of course the "Old Rancere" himself plans to be there with his "shavola". If you have any "La Nostra Costa" books that you wish to have autographed, please bring them along and Ivano will sign them. And Anon Furlana will be there, however, she may not reveal herself. She prefers to stay Anonymous. Sempre Avanti,

Thanks Nannette. I am glad you had a good time. I was happy to see a few younger faces at the event. We need them to keep the memories of 'La Costa Alive". Sempre Avanti, Ivano
