Ivan: Don't know if this is the site for comments re your book but wanted you to know that I just
completed it recently. I enjoyed it very much and could relate to so many of your friends and
escapades. Loved your tales involving the school crossing guards. I remember (Charles) Derby well (LNC p.275).
My father was on the force the same time as Derby; as well as Ray Carpenter, Tom, whose
name just escaped me, (Leonard). A lot of names were on the tip of my tongue when I started this email but now have forgotten again -- Oh-- Ernie Grafft and Ernie Marenghi(sp),
Herman Nanna, more whose names have left me again. My dad was Blondie Burris.
I remember well the horrible accident with the (DeLucca) Family and fire truck (LNC p. 291). I also recalled the
accident where the boy (Carrol Wallace) fell from the flat bed truck onto the highway (LNC p 293). He was a cousin
of a '54 classmate, Areka Stevenson-DeLa Selva, who lives in Monterey.
Just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed the book and will keep it in my library.
Thanks for writing it. Good luck in any future book endeavors.
Sincerely, Emma Burris Turner.

Thanks Emma for your very kind comments. In the book I tried to pay tribute to some of the Santa Cruz Police Officers you mentioned. They had a great influence on me becoming a Police Officer. The Santa Cruz Police Department had some very good and honarable police officers on its force. Veteran SC Police Officers who are still alive should not let their history slip away. ivno

Oh Ivano. You look so handsome with your hat. You remind me so much of my father. He always wore a hat like that. It was the style back then. Now the only one that seems to wear the fedora type hat is Brittney Spears. How awful.
Wish I could make it to the Winery. I have two books for you to authograph. One for me and one for my bello. Maybe next time. CC

Thanks for the kind words Carrie. Actually, that's my father's (Bronco)last hat. It must be over thirty years old by now. I have adopted it, along with the "shavola" (not quite that old) that I am leaning on, as the symbol of the "bagnatori" who irrigated the crops "su per la costa". My father was one of the best irrigators on the Coast, at a time when irrigation was a "hands-on" endeavor. No whirlybird sprinklers, just the 'bagnatore' and his "shavola".

Yes, I too noticed that Brittney wears the "fedora" on her head.
I think it's just a matter of fashion for her and doesn't really symbolize anything. I was kind of hoping that more of the young men would be wearing it. It really is quite practical. It keeps your head warm on cold days and shields it form the sun's rays on hot ones.

Sorry, you will miss the Gugliermo Winery event. Hope to see you soon.

It is so awesome to get responses and read the blogga – we do have to Keep that going – love it. Encourage more people to contribute and I too Will try to drum up some old memory stories.

Norma and Al: Hope everything goes well with Al's surgery. We will miss you at Guglielmo's. With Al sitting this one out, I really won't have an official-unofficial photographer. Maybe I can get my grandson to take a couple of photos. Sta bene. ivn0

Wow what a party. Guglielmo Winery really knows how to throw a Festival. Music, food and of course, plenty of wine. Gene Guglielmo and his staff are very hard working and most congenial. My special thanks to Larry Spivak (aka: Lorenzo Spivacchi),Tasting Room Manager; for inviting me to participate.

I was mistaken in saying that this was an annual event. Larry informed me that they do this once a quarter. The next event will be in February next year. Larry has been most gracious in inviting the “Old Rancere” back for that event.

I will let “blagga’ fans know the exact date of the Festival. For those of you that do not live in the San Jose-Morgan Hill- Gilroy area, please consider traveling a little to get to this event. You will certainly get a lot for your travels. And the “Old Rancere” recommends the Red Wine that they pour;tastes real good and you can save ‘Big Bucks” on bottles of Guglielmo Red Wine. (For ‘Anonymous Furlan’ : No you do not have to stomp your own grapes.)

Sempre Avanti e ‘Viva La Cuccagna” ivn0 .
