If you wish to read further about the adventures of the Cantarutti and Comelli boys, please read the following Chapter (14)'Tre Famiglie Insieme' (Three Families Together) The third family alluded to is the Taurian Family. The two boys, Felicino and Elso also were 'Figli della Costa'. Their parents Mario and Gigia Taurian, were originally from the Friuli Region in Italy. ivno

Ivano: What a handsome man your father was. He was so rugged looking. Reminded me of my own father. By the way: What is Lido trying to do in the background? He sure was cute. Carrie

Dear Carrie: I think Lido was doing his imitation of a Japanese Sumo Wrestler; however,as you can readily tell, he lacked the bulk. As I recall, our stay in Felton that year was just after the 2nd Joe Louis vs Billy Conn fight. Louis knocked out Conn in the 8th round of that fight. I seem to remember that Lido and I, stripped to the waist and wearing only our swim trunks went around posing a lot as two promising boxers. Lido might have been celebrating one of his imaginary victories over his bigger opponent...me. Fat chance Lido. ivn0

Dear Ivano,

You have an amazing memory, because, as you now remind me, I think you are absolutely right: that is what we were doing. We were pretending to be great boxers, we were strong and we were the champions! Gosh, I had just forgotten that, and couldn’t remember what I was doing in that photo. But, as I said, I think you are exactly correct!

What I do remember, however, is how much fun it was to go with your family to Felton! The Big Trees, and the cabins we stayed in, and the sunshine, -- all that! And, of course, during other parts of our vacation, the very fun times at the Santa Cruz beach!

Thanks for bringing back all these old really good times!

And I received the below e-mail from our LNostra-Costa Boxing Authority, The Canadian Furlan:

Oh Yea

Billy Conn and Joe Louis..they had two great matches. The first one just prior to WWII .. Louis knocked out Billy in the 15th round and at that point Billy had out boxed Louis and was on his way to a majority decision if he just didn't get his Irish temper up. Billy started the 15th round cocky as ever thinking he could KO Louis.. well BIG mistake Billy. Louis later told Billy you held the Heavy Weight Championship for 14 rounds what else do you expect!! And prior to Louis-Conn II Louis quoted this famous saying when asked about the rematch... Well he can run but he can't hide!! And as everyone knows any time an opponent fights Louis a second time he is surely on the receiving end of a totally different fighter. Louis had that skill where he learned from his mistakes and corrected them. If you recall the Louis-Schmelling fights. The second fight Schmelling barely made it out of the ring alive...but in the first fight Louis was knocked out by Schmelling after 12 rounds...

I can go on forever
