Hello, Like Janis, I too found you by accident. And stange too, Janis is related to me. Her nono, Rico Malatesta and my nono, Armando Malatesta were cousins. My nono and nona, Paolina, farmed on Beach Road in Watsonville. They had 3 children, Andrew(my father), Louie and Ada. All are gone now. In reading your blog is see many familier names and places. I have seen your documentry on Davenport on tv. I'm related to the Olimpio family of Davenport on my husband's side of the family. Encarnation Olimpio was by mother-om-law Bernice's sister. What a small world. The memories you have brought to me are fantastic. Thank you..

Ivano Mio Caro Amico. I cannot express the work you have accomplished promoting your heritage and keeping the flames of Branco and Valentina alive. This is what life is all about. People may cross "il Ultimo Ponte" but their souls remain with all of us through stories and events, they never leave us. It is too bad I live so far away, I would be there to see all your work. But don't write me off one day I will surprise you ...See you Furlan !!
Ciao e Mandi, Buon Anno 2009

HAPPY NEW YEAR IVANO:
I am so happy. I found me a new bello. He is just wonderful.
And guess what? He is not even Italian. But, he sure makes me feel Italian!

Doriano is so correct. Those of our love ones remain (and live) with us in our memories. We need more people like you, Ivano, (and Doriano) who can articulate these memories in your stories. You are like a troubadour from a past life. God Bless you. Carrie

THANKS FOR YOUR KIND COMMENTS EVERYONE.
I will try to 'keep on with keeping on'. It's comments like yours (and also those I receive via regular e-mail)that keep me going.

Right now I have a couple of projects in mind for '09. Hopefully, they will be far enough along in a couple of months to advise you of them on the "Blagga".

Again, Thanks for your continued support, everyone. And Carrie, congrats on your new 'bello'. Happy times are here again!

Hey Ivano "Come stai mio caro amico Furlan!!"

Just wanted to let you know that in your La Nostra Costa Blogga there was a John LaBarba that sent in a message regarding your day at Porter Memorial Library. Well John's father was a World Champion Boxer, Fidel LaBarba. I left a message on the Blogga regarding this. I was at the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota NY when Fidel was inducted posthumously in 1996. He was quite the World Flyweight champion. Fidel was born in NY in 1905. He won a Gold Medal in the 1924 Olympics while still in high School and he won the world championship in 1927 and then took time off to finish his schooling at Stanford University in Journalism. What a Champion. He was tough as nails and was never knocked out. He had a total of 95 professional bouts. He retired and became a very distinguished sports writer and technical advisor for many boxing movies.

This is great !!! Ivano your Blogga is a source of excellent Historical data.

All the best to John LaBarba and his family....
