WHEN THE 'OLD' BIRTHDAY ROLLS AROUND

*************************Ivano with Model of Rubber Gun ***************

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY. AS USUAL, WHEN THE ‘OLD’ BIRTHDAY ROLLS AROUND, I START THINKING OF MY MOTHER. AFTER ALL SHE WAS THE ONE THAT HAD TO DO ALL THE WORK THIS DAY SOME 70 YEARS AGO.

As I thought about her I pulled out some of the family photos. Looking at the photos, I soon realized that most of the people photographed (including my mother) were younger than I am today. As a boy growing up ‘su per la costa’, I can remember thinking, “These people are really old.” This being true, then I must be really old today.

Then again, I can remember an octogenarian friend of mine once commenting as a trim young lass walked by, “Oh to be 70 again”.

I guess the time to strike is now. Sempre Avanti. Ivano

Ivano: Happy, happy birthday. Thanks for all of the pleasure you've brought us, recounting the history of the Coast! Also...it is true joy to know there's someone older than I am (if only a few months!).

Happy Birthday (belatedly), Ivano.
It's true, isn't it, that life gets richer and more interesting as we get older? Look at all you've done in the past few years, instead of resting on your 'laurels'.......
I wish you a great new birth-year....and yes, thanks be to mama for doing what she did to have you. I, too, think of my Mom on my birthday. I only wish she were still here to say 'thank you'....for so many things.
Felice cumpleanni.

Happy B-day Ivano,

I celebrated your B-day by ordering a triple con-pana at the Dancing Goats Espresso Bar. I never dreamed that being a member of the "60" age group would seem young, but right now it does! However, if a way to slow time down cannot be found (I can't afford a trip into outer space), I'll catch up with you next year.

Too bad you couldn't do the book signing at Esther's book store in early June. Judy and I would have been there (along with Derrill & Kathy). Afterwards, we would have all gotten together as a group and not scattered into smaller groups like last time. As you know we have been working furiously on the old house to prepare it for sale. It is almost finished, and Judy & I have done most of the work. The old house has prevented us from visiting S.C. and joining you folks at one of those "Klempnauer/Comelli" reunion lunches.

All understood about the passage of time. I am now 6 months older than Baffi was when he died.

When I listen to the old songs on "Italia in Brasile" I remember too many sad times, but also some of the good ones. We must go on with faith in a kind and forgiving Heavenly Father. Things will be good, if we keep the faith and obey His will.

Saluti di nuovo,

Gino

Hi Ivano,

Thank you for all the goodies you send over the Internet all the time. I haven't talked to you in awhile.

I wish you a very Belated Happy Birthday. Was this your 70th? If so, we are the same age for a few months. I can hardly believe the age we've lived to sometimes. When our parents were this age, we thought it was so far off! Ha Ha. My Dad died at 76 and I thought that was kind of young. My Mom was almost 92. That would be almost 22 years older than me!!! No way...

Hope you and your family are doing well.

Arrivaderci (Sp?) My Italian is getting horrible. Only speak it with my Sister-in-law in Italy once in a great while.

LNC: Thanks Anna, I remember your parents (Petroni) very well. Yes, now that I am 70, I can definitely say that 76 is very young.
BTW: Have you been able to get to the Santa Cruz Library to view the "La Nostra Costa" Photo Display. You father should be in one of the photos on display. ivno
